My New Fabric Design Is Here
The swatches for my first fabric design arrived from Sponflower on Friday, October 7, 2016. I couldn't open the package until I returned from teaching at the Custom Workroom Weekend. They were wrapped in tissue paper with a sticker.
Here they are! Sewing Machine and Scissors Damask in 6 colors and available at www.spoonflower.com .
Looking back I can see that art has been the common thread that runs through my life. I have expressed myself artistically through several different mediums sporadically over the years.
In my teens and early 20s I did mostly pen and ink drawings.
In my 30s and 40s I used needle and embroidery thread to design and stitch counted cross stitch patterns with Southern and Louisiana themes.
From my 40s to the present I have been fabricating window treatments and soft furnishings which I consider to be an art form in itself.
Now in my 60s I am drawing again designing fabric repeats and other drawings that express my interests. It feels great to pick up a pencil again and draw as if there weren't years in between. At one time I thought that I would never draw again because I didn't see anything that inspired me. Ideas flow and one has to be open to taking hold of them.
I have more fabric designs in the works and look forward to seeing them come to life on fabric.
