Matching Stripes With Double Sided Tape
Did you ever struggle with matching up stripes on zippers when doing pillows pillows? Wonder no more! It's as easy as Rowley Double Sided Tape 3/8" DF37. I used Rowley #5 Nylon Invisible Zippers. This is a short blog post to show you how easy it is.
Cut out your pillow front and back and apply the welt cord as usual. Stitch in one side of the invisible zipper.
First Row Left: The finished pillow.
First Row Center: Apply the double sided tape to the right side of the side of the zipper that is not sewn on.
First Row Right: Close the zipper and turn up the zipper until the wrong side faces you. With a pencil, mark lines on the zipper that exactly coincide with the stripes on the fabric.
Second Row Left: Pull off the paper backing from the double sided tape that is on the zipper.
Second Row Center: Place the right side of the pillow back fabric onto the right side of the pillow front - right sides together. Line up the lines on the zipper with the stripes on the fabric. Press firmly so that the double sided tape adheres to the fabric.
Second Row Right: Stitch the zipper in place. The stripes should line up perfectly.
Third Row Left: Do basically the same for the top of the pillow. Place the double sided tape onto the welt cord. Be sure not to place the tape too close. Leave a bit of space to stitch so the glue doesn't gum up your needle.
Third Row Center: Place pillow front and back right sides together. Line up the stripes on the fabric. Pull off the paper backing from the tape. Press the fabric down firmly onto the tape. Stitch in place.
Third Row Right: And there you are - the stripes are matched perfectly saving time and a bit of aggravation.
